Roof lanterns are an alternative to flat glass rooflights. The glass is angled to a pitch creating two triangular end pieces and two trapezoidal long sides which create the distinctive lantern rooflight shape.

Our glass roof lanterns have a contemporary and unique design that utilises the latest state-of-the-art technology in structural silicone glazing. The advantage of this market-leading technology enables us to produce a product that has frameless glass-to-glass hip and ridge joints, creating one of the slimmest sightlines on the market.

Do you need planning permission?
Normally, you don’t require planning permission to install roof lanterns on a flat roof, as the permitted development rules allow roof alterations under certain limits and conditions. However, there are certain conditions in which a roof lantern may require planning permission. Therefore, we would always recommend discussing such alterations with your local planning authority prior to undertaking any alteration works. Are roof lanterns a good idea?
If you’re looking for something to provide lots of light and a wow factor, then lantern rooflights are absolutely a good idea! They allow lots of natural light to enter the space below and can also create an attractive centerpiece to any kitchen or living space. We offer stock sizes and also bespoke sizes up to 2m x 5.8m in glass angles of 20, 30 and 40 degrees. Roof lanterns are an excellent addition to an existing property or a new extension.

How much do they cost to fit?
This depends on the size of roof lantern and your builder. All our roof lanterns are pre-assembled by our expert team of operatives in our manufacturing facility. They are delivered fully assembled and fully weathertight. Therefore, the installation process can be very easy and efficient. We would expect an average size lantern rooflight to take approximately 1 hour to install. In most cases, your builder would install the unit. In our experience, most builders are happy to install roof lanterns but it is always worth discussing this with your builder prior to ordering.

How do you clean a roof lantern?
As with most glass products, the roof lantern will need to be cleaned from time to time. Fortunately, the angle of the glass tends to look after itself. We can apply an easy clean coating on the glass in the factory, if really necessary, but we wouldn’t do this as standard.

Are they noisy in the rain?
Glazing technology has improved significantly over the years. They are a complete contrast to the plastic conservatory roof sheeting, which if you’ve ever experienced it in the rain, is rather noisy, to say the least! You can have complete confidence that our glass roof lanterns, will offer you a comfortable and peaceful living area.

Are roof lanterns too hot or too cold?
With significant improvements in glass technology and structural glazing techniques, we are able to offer a roof lantern with outstanding thermal efficiency and low U values. With various glazing options, we can offer a glazing specification to suit your requirements. This will produce a roof lantern that keeps the room warm in the winter and cooler in the summer and lowers heating bills.
